I fully agree with Greg! Take me as an example. I only use print film for
my 2D pictures and slide film for my 3D pictures. 3D has a disadvantage
in depending on slide film. 3D in print format is not the answer IMO. It
all comes back to the viewing question/problem: What is the best way to
view the 3D image? I will continue to use slide film as the medium of
choice in my stereo photography but I can see how newcomers hesitate to try
it. Good color print film certainly did its part in killing stereo
photography.
BTW, I have great B&W prints from when I was a kid, up to the 60s. My
parents always hired a professional photographer not only in baptisms and
other formal events but also birthday parties! Labor must have been cheap
in Greece back then. The prints are all well composed and sharp. Many
excellent enlargements. Really very good work... until we hit the do-it-
yourself era with the low quality snapshots and the fading colors...
I love those excellent B&W portraits and family pictures. Color offers
very little in pictures of people and I dare say that depth offers very
little too in a portrait (we all know that our heads are round, but do we
really want to know how long our noses are?)
