3D is alive and well in Florida...

On my recent trip around Florida, I was amazed how many times I found
3D items. Thought you might like to know about a few of them: (I have
some pics and might make a web page of them if anyone is interested...)
1. Orlando Airport - In the Discovery Store (like the channel) there
was a nice, modern Stereopticon with about 8 or 10 color stereo cards.
I believe it was priced at about $35.00. In the Warner Brothers Store
there is a play area for kids in the back that is something like a
rocket ship. In the two windows were about 2' x2' lenticular pictures
of Marvin the Martian and his Dog. Very neat effect! In the Sea World
Store, I saw two different ViewMaster reel sets, and the new packaging
for the Sea world Parks that includes a viewer. Very nice as well! In
the Universal Studios Store there was information about the new T2-3D
movie along with a 5' x3' lenticular in the display window of Arnold's
head changing from normal face to metalic face. They also several sets
of ViewMasters.
2. Walgreen's Drug Store - Found 3 Image tech disposable cameras with
flash for about $15 each.
3. Billboards - There were several multi-dimensional billboards
everywhere, but the best one was a billboard for T2-3D where Arnold is
holding a giant metallic head out in front of the billboard. complete
with lights, etc. (no picture as I was always driving when I saw this
one...
4. Epcot - Lenticulars in the Innoventions West area by Kodak Imaging.
WOW! Honey I shrunk the Audience: Saw this when it was about 3 weeks
old, and the print was gorgeous, thus the 3D was really spectacular.
Now it is about 2 years old, and it looks like they have been showing
the same print since I was there the first time... So fuzzy, that you
actually lost some of the intended 3D effect. really sorry actually!
5. Disney World - Carousel of Progress has been updated/changed. In the
first stage, on the room to the right, the 10-14 year old son in the
turn of the century family is sitting in the parlor viewing the family
Stereopticon saying something like" Wow, it's like you are really
there!" Then, in the 4th stage, the teen age son and his Grandmother
are wearing VR helmets to play a new 3D video game. Also, in the Kodak
shop on main street, they have a display case of old cameras, and lo
and behold, there is an antique stereopticon and some cards. Right
behind that, there are 13 different Disney related ViewMasters, and
projectors and viewers, etc... I couldn't resist asking why there were
no packs about the parks and the people very seriously told me that
they wish there could be but the ViewMaster company was out of
business... I couldn't believe that!
6. Cypress Gardens - There used to be a camera/photographer set of
bleachers here for people who wanted pics of the water-skiers to be a
bit closer for good shots. they had a picture of this thing packed with
people and their cameras and sure enough in the group of 20 or 30
people there, two had realists up to their foreheads! =)
7. In the plane - I did see (and have) the add for the "revolutionary"
3D glasses system that will make "anything" on TV look more 3D. What a
scam!! I laughed out loud. I had read about it here, but how sad when
you actually see it!
Let me know if anyone is interested in having me put a web page up of
the images I have.
