Aliens and Ghosts in 3-D
It's funny you should mention that at about the same time as the
discussion of 3-D Book Productions...they've recently put out a ViewMaster
illustrated book of pictures of little alien-shaped dolls, for some reason.
It's called something like "They Have Always Been Here". I _do_ support 3-D
Book Productions, and I own and enjoy most of their other productions, but
I...ah...decided to give this one a miss. Anybody out there got a copy one and
want to tell us what it's all about?
Stereo World, Vol. 15, #5, p. 22 has a squib called "UFO Shot with Nimslo!".
As I recall, the picture shows a string of bright dots in the sky, and appeals
to readers to explain it (probably in the spirit of amusement). (I don't
remember if they ever got any responses, but it always seemed pretty obvious
that it was xenon flashers on a passing aircraft.)
Then of course there are the ViewMaster reels of Star Trek and other SciFi
TV shows and movies.
I suppose there might be frames in the (in)famous "Alien Autopsy" film that
might form stereo pairs.
As for ghosts, there was a genre of stereo cards featuring double-exposed
"ghost" images. I think I've seen ones where a mother's ghost watches over
children, and another where the ghost of a wife frightens the husband and his
new girlfriend. And of course there are the awe-inspiring "Diableries" tissue
views of the daily life of Satan and his skeletal minions. In the View-Master
line, there's always the excellent reel of the Disney haunted house, or the
various Casper reels/packets...not to mention "The Night Before Christmas"
packet...I'm sure the real hard-core collectors can name more.
