RBT S1 is here!!!

Hi! I can hardly breath from excitement! I just got the RBT S1
from Jon Golden. The camera will stay with me for 2 1/2 weeks,
plenty of time to give it a good workout that will result (with
input from Larry Moor) in a review in Stereo World and elsewhere.

The camera looks lovely (you don't hear me say that often, do you?)
better than I remembered from Rochester. It is based on two
Konica Hexar cameras and RBT has done a great job putting them
together. Only after careful examination of the interior you
can tell that this camera was not originally made as one piece.
It is compact and lightweight, a natural extension of the stereo
cameras of the 50s in the 21st century!

(I put it in the scale, out of curiosity... it weighs exactly
2 lbs slightly more than the Realist, but the same if you take
out the batteries... it is also a little bit longer, just a bit)

By reading the manual and playing with the unloaded camera, I
was surprised to see that even though it is an autofocus camera
and can be used in fully automatic mode, it has a manual
override for everything. Even in the automatic mode, the user
has a control over the minimum handheld speed and the program
that changes the shutter speeds and apertures applies itself
naturally to 3d by favoring lower shutter speeds at reasonably
small apertures.

I look forward to shooting many pictures in the next two
weeks. Everything from fall scenes to portraits! I'll also
have the camera available for anyone who wants to come to
my house (!) and see it and I will bring it to Detroit this
coming Wednesday for the regular club meeting (Nostalgia,
remember? Hmmm, I might have the time this weekend to shoot
RBT Nostalgia... ;))

I'll keep you posted! -- George Themelis
