That would help explain why they were showing a special that detailed when
and why such staged events are used. I'm all for doing it in the more
natural way even if it means waiting for the shot. 

Shooting stereo with a sinlge camera more than doubles the waiting factor.
It never fails, a nice day with no wind stays that way until the moment
you've shot the first of a pair. Then out of nowhere a breeze jumps up and
starts moving things around. My technique is to choose the first shot at a
moment when things are at rest. That way, when the breeze goes away again,
things return pretty much to the same rest point. Recently I waited quite a
bit for the second shot of some cattails which turned out very nice despite
the crouched, hand-held camera position.
