Taylor-Merchant Prism Lenses

A while back I bought a couple of pairs of the Taylor-Merchant
stereo viewing lenses advertised in _Stereo World_. I have finally mounted
them in wood frames and pass on my experience with them. As I shoot prints
exclusively, I have tried a number of viewers, mostly from Reel 3D. Most of
them are just a bit too small or narrow for satisfactory viewing of full
4x4" pairs. I went to the mirror, measured my eye separation (70mm) and
mounted the lenses centered on that measurement. Voila! No difficulty
instantly resolving the frames even in subdued light. With other viewers I
had sometimes had problems fully fusing large frames unless under bright
light. I liked the lenses from the start but originally had them mounted a
bit too narrowly, more like the cheap commercial viewers that work best with
3x3" pairs.

If you have had any trouble resolving old stereo cards or modern
prints, you might like to give these lenses a try. I notice no color
distortion and find them the sharpest I have tried. As I recall, they list
at US$7.95 a pair from:

        Taylor-Merchant Corp.
