It is very easy to scan slides or negatives into a computer using goodies
like a Nikon Coolscan or Leafscan. They are designed to scan negs or slides
directly into the computer. The only problems are:

1) Finding somebody who owns a scanner. You might check photo-retouching,
photo-restoration folks in your area (most have gone electronic as it is
much easier than hand retouching). Also check the multiservice copy-print
shops (Kinkos) as some of then have negative scanners.

2) You might have to take the slides out of the mounts as some scanners
only take 35mm negs or 35mm standard slide mounts. If you can find a place
with a Leafscan 45 (takes up to a 4x5 neg or slide) you could probably rig
it to scan stereo mounts.
