Now isn't that figure designed to reduce the flicker frequency to a point
where normal movie projection rates are unnoticeable?

I wonder what the brightness would have to be if the determining factor
were ghosting instead.  It would probably depend on a lot of factors that
varied from setup to setup - things like extinction ratios and slide range.
