RE: Greg asks what is the poor novice to do when the recommended film
guides, used for Sunny-16 offsets don't mention smog, volcanic dust etc.
Well, one who has read and understood these sheets is not a novice
anymore. Now the definition of hazy and cloudy-bright is based on how
well a shadow is cast..how dark it is. And one of these should do for
the aforementioned conditions.
I think I have one of those guides..Called The ASA Exposure Calculator
and made perhaps for all the armed forces. The Burroughs Wellcome
Company of England and USA (a pharmaceutical company) once had really
detailed exposure guides tabbed by longitude and latitude etc. WHY?
Because they made some neat developers in pill form, for explorers in
the wild to mix in stream water etc. Tropical developers too! The only
pill developer I ever saw later was one from California "Micrograin
Perfection" designed for the predecessor to Tech Pan, Kodak High
Contrast Copy, Tech Pan and AGfA Copex. All darlings of the subminiature
set. BobH
