RE: What is Modern..few cherish cameras over 10 years old?? (Peter has
never met a Leica fanatic. They consider Japanese cameras as still cheap
products and don't even know their names. But they are a disappearing
breed!
Peter Coffin rightly observes the REALIST is a '50s camera (acutally
conceived prewar but not able to be mads until after WW2). I have an ad
I must scan in Swedish Foto dated February 1946 showing Stereo Realist
as announcement of new American stereo camera. Picture has very heavy
knurling on knobs that did not make it to production! So was even
artists picture of prototype???
The present flash shoe fit, originated with the SLR boom. BUT the shoe
is the Leica design that everyone copied. It took a long time for a
Leica to get a hot shoe in the model SL2 of 1968? So Realist was first
and made for its flash. Other makers seemed to have copied the Realist
as theirs don't fit modern flashes either. The Kine Exakta was the first
35mm with a flash sync built in in 1936. It shares with the SPORT of
Russia as the first 35mm SLR! BobH

Geraldine, the "Devil made me do it!")
