I never use notches, but I know you'd still end up transposing. I just free
view the cut pairs and plop them into place. I follow the Dr.T school of
stereo mounting.

Actually I was cristened the 3D Hacker by Joel Alpers. The name just stuck
like epoxy.

RBT definately uses matched lenses, as for me I do some tests before I get
out the chain saw. But if I just happen to pick up a couple of cameras for a
few bucks, I usually take a chance anyway. If the project is really a
success, it's usually pretty easy to switch optics later if required. ( My
stereo Nettar took four cameras before I found matching optics, but my
Stereo Petri was bang on the first time)
Although accuracy is one of my goals in doing modifications for stereo, I
also do it because I get my jollies from it. I love it when I get a pair of
cameras nobody wants and turn them into a stereo creation. It's like 3D
reincarnation ! It also recycles. Some day I hope to have someone take my
original designs seriously, but for now the hacking's fills the gap, and
expands my 3D horizons a little farther.

By the way George, I too love Werner's book. He's been saying there's a part
two in the works for some time, I hope it happens. It's Werner who traded me
out of my Donaldson, and he's also a fantastic Medium Format Stereographer.
