5p vs. 7p (was: Kodak vs FED)

>And the 7p images are closer to what people expect to see in terms

Why is that so? Can it be because we are used to 35 mm full-frame
images? The modern world of photography is diverse. For many subjects
the full-frame proportion is a good choice. But many subjects are better
presented in a square frame. I was just reviewing Stan White's excellent
tabletop 3d photography. I noticed that he does not have any 3d images
wider than 5p. In many cases his images are mounted in 4p mounts
(full-height).

Instead of using 7p mounts to fill the screen I prefer to choose the
mount that fits my subject (if I have a choice). The squarish 5p images
have the advantage of filling nicely most projection screens which
usually come in square sizes and most viewers which have round lenses.

Except for professional photographers who use medium format cameras.
