I have always gotten my film strip back coiled tightly in a roll with 
white paper and returned upright in a 1-3/8" box. When sending in Kodalux 
mailers, I just print DO NOT MOUNT in the place marker Special 
Instructions. I sent my last mailer to Dallas a few months ago and 
received the box with the coiled strip. The return address reads:
     Kodak Premium Processing
     Qualex Inc. 275
     3131 Manor Way
     Dallas, TX 75235
I have never received an uncut strip flattened the way you describe.
