Funny you should mention slow turn on!
Years ago I used my 16 mm projector a lot. It seems that the bulbs would
generally fail when I first turned it on. I saw an article about adding a
thermistor in series with the bulb to limit the inrush of current.
Wow! I tripled the number of hours I was able to get per bulb!
Now I know this short delay would not have any effect on the
glass part of the bulb, but it sure works wonders on the filament.
Always made me wonder why it wasn't built-in from the start.
