I'd say it is the subject, tools and skills. Many 2d photography clubs
have different categories for subjects like nature, pictorial, portraits,
etc. Come to think about it, it is easier to compare a portrait with
another portrait than with a hypestereo of Grand Canyon. But stereo clubs
and stereo competitions are scarce and this is a luxury that we cannot
afford.
As I hit the road today, I saw this wonderful sunset, nice clouds, colors,
the wind was blowing... After an entire day indoors I was happy to breath
the fresh air and wished I could capture some of this natural beauty, some
of this wonderful feeling of being alive and seeing all this...
This experience reminded me one of the most basic functions of photography:
To capture the beauty of nature. It is not the only function but it is one
of the most important. Being out there, seeing this with your own eyes and
trying to capture it with your camera is in a different level than being
locked in a room trying to recreate nature with a computer.
