SPIE proceedings vol. 2177, Stereoscopic Displays and Virtual Reality
Systems, 1994, has an 8 page article by 'Perry Hoberman, artist', on his
techniques for manipulating an image to simulate depth. He starts with an
image of a box, and progresses to another of a face. Most of it is as one
might imagine, using shadow, pulling forward & pushing back, but he does go
into some detail. It is not the typical impenetrable SPIE technical paper.
Also in this volume are several articles on stereo x-rays, and one of Andrew
Woods' papers on underwater stereo video. It is on sale for $40, see
'publications' at http://www.spie.org/spie_home.html
There are several other titles on stereoscopic technology at about half
price, but my reading of their contents left me cross-eyed.
