Those damn anaglyphs

Marvin Jones writes <<At about the same time the anaglyph conversions were
made, Universal released both "It Came" and "Black Lagoon" on video in
anaglyph. They were abysmal.
Whoever did the video conversion kept adjusting the interocular from shot to
shot, causing severe viewing problems, and no one seemed to realize at first
that anaglyph images are extremely unsuccessful in NTSC video. There were so
many complaints and returned tapes that both titles were pulled from the
market within weeks.>>

AHA!!!!! I thought I was going nuts when I bought "It Came..." on tape many
years ago. I could never get the 3D to fix for more than a minute or so.
Almost turned me off to stereo in general, and certainly to "stereo" movies
from the '50s. Didn't anybody tell those jackasses what they were doing
wrong? It certainly couldn't have been that big an expense to correct the
situation -- just re-master and don't mess with the interocular. Me, I'm just
waiting for the laserdisk.
