What? No sound???

The other day I had a VM projection for my kids with a 2 1/4" Stereomatic
500. Worked very well with images almost as large as my 5" TDC projected
from the same location and with good brightness too. We checked various
cartoon titles, old stuff and newer ones (Casper). Clearly, those reels
are not made for projection. Excessive deviation, wrong placement of
stereo window, misalignment, etc.

Yesterday I threatened the kids (8 and 5) that there will not be any VM
projection if they don't eat all their food and they said "Fine, we don't
care". "WHAT??? You don't care about VM projection? "No, we don't" they
said!" "Why???" "Movies are better, they have sound!" was the reply...

That got me thinking... The kids have a point. Is 3d enough to compensate
for the lack of sound, lack of movement, lack of continuous action?

WARNING: Opinions follow, nothing to do with VM, but only 3d in general...

Sometimes it is, but not always... I love my 3d slides and I love seeing
other people's nice stereo images, but I do not approve every darn thing
just because it is 3d and will not place everything 3d over something 2d
automatically. We have to be careful when we show our 3d work to the
public or even our own family. Show only our best. Don't show junk. Use
the best available equipment if we can afford them (I have refused the
temptation to carry a cheap viewer around to show people 3d slides; if I am
going to carry a viewer, it is going to be a good one.) If we can improve
the presentation, by all means, let's do it! Narrate the projection. Use
music and sound effects if possible. Try and build a climax. Show
the average and leave the best for the end. Don't overdo it. Leave the
audience asking for more, not begging for mercy!

Now I am going home and will threaten those kids with a few more VM
cartoons if they don't eat all their food!!! ;) ;) ;)
