Larry Berlin offers:

>POOR DESIGN for ANY slide holder regardless of which projector you may use.

Gosh, Larry, that means I have to throw out half of every box of Gepe
mounts I buy! Tell me, do you recommend that I keep the white halves,
or the dark grey halves? :-)

Seriously, though, as has now been thoroughly explained, the white
side is intended to reflect heat away from the slide on the lamp
side, and the dark half is to help reduce internal reflections between
the slide and the lens. RBT is not the only mount maker to use this
convention.

However, some people like the appearance of the dark mount for viewing,
and when projecting slides mounted this way they are defeating the
intended purpose of the design.

I wonder if the heat-absorbing glass in Jamie's projector got broken
somewhere along the way, and a naive but well-intentioned person
replaced it with ordinary window glass, not understanding its purpose?
