Several have responded to this discussion and I see that others raised
points that I would have to repeat to respond further. I think Dr. T's
experiment demonstrated adequately that an RBT mount will melt rather easily
when the circumstances are not right and it seemed the black side was most
susceptable. It is physically characteristic of black to absorb heat readily
and this is sufficient engineering reason to not use it as the material in a
slide holder. Sure things are great if all conditions remain controllable
and controlled. Such is not always the case for slides, and not all
projectors work as well as you might wish. It makes sense to consider these
factors. It's a user beware situation! It would make the most sense for RBT
to offer their product in an all white format or other options that stay on
the white end of the color scale. It also seems that white cardboard mounts
are perhaps optimum under the variable conditions found in projection.
