Only briefly mentioned in passing was the alternative of multiple 
flashes from the same unit.

In days past, this was often refered to as "painting with light" and was 
practiced with both instantaneous and continuous light sources. This 
approach offers many, many photographic and artistic advantages to 
single point illumination, and would seem to be an ideal technique for 
the dark reaches of the cave-dweller...
