Actually, they all are!  The flash contacts in the camera just complete
a circuit to fire the strobe... you could do this with a transistor.

You could also use a free-running "party strobe" type of light.  Just
open the shutter on "bulb" or "time" and use a card in front of the
lens to control the number of "pops" you record...
