I also use the Firefly II Slave Units...if fact I have 3! I cannot think
of another unit that even comes close! After being frustrated with a
Nissin Synchro Slave (a passive unit) for years which sometimes triggered
and sometimes didn't, I finally bought the Firefly II. Their sensitivity
is amazing. Also, I've had my units for 3 years now and they are still on
their original batteries. They work out around the same price as passive
units. But non cavers beware! They are designed for use in the cave
environment and become less sensitive with more ambient light...having
said that, I have not had a situation where one did not trigger above or
below ground! The only thing that does happen is when I'm setting up a
multiflash shot and one of my 2-D friends uses his auto focus camera. The
Infra Red beam from his camera triggers all my flashes! I tell him to
take his one eyed friend somewhere else!
