color anaglyph on computer monotors

 I'm trying to get info on how to make color anaglyphs from realist slides
(on a computer monitor). If I scan in red and blue  I would then loose the
full color. How does David Burder do it? If I remember right he uses a full
color print overlayed with the red and blue.
