The Firefly II slave unit is extremely sensitive.  The manufacturers claim
500 metres!  Although I suspect this is in a straight line.  I have
personally hidden my units under rocks, behind shawls, around corners (in
caves) and not had a failure.  It is possible to trigger it with a miners
lamp, but you have to whisk it past very quickly.  It is not easy to false
trigger it.  I'd prefer the occassional false flash as trade off for the
extra sensitivity!  I believe that it is more sensitive to Infra Red than
visible light.
