Computer images win Detroit!

It was great in Detroit last night! Christmas party, good food, a couple
of demonstrations and then the "Transportation" competition. I had my kids
with me which were running wild in the corridors being more interested in
senior's square dance than 3d slides! Now they want to come next month
too! Mike (forgot his last name), a young fellow new to stereo photography
and list member, was there for the first time and picked up his new 50x50s
screen. We sat in the back, behind the scoring table and had fun trying to
outguess the judges and commenting on the results...
We saw a variety of transportation subjects... trains, planes &
automobiles, etc. Bill Battle did great with his computer-generated stereo
images. He got first and second place. I tied in second place with a
"sandwich" slide (made by overlaying two slides, one of a airplane and
another of army guys falling with parachutes, the result looked like toy
people falling in front of the plane). Jim Motley captured one of the few
third places. I also had two HMs. One was of GoodTime III, a well-known
sight-seeing boat in Cleveland (yes, that rope had to come through the
window!). The other was of this weird decoration of the cars hanging from
the ceiling, taken at the new Rock & Roll Hall of Fame Museum in Cleveland
with the RBT S1 (during the brief time that I was evaluating it). 74
slides entered the competition (the Detroit club must be one of the most
competitive stereo clubs in the world right now!) Placing all 3 slides is
hard and that's the second time I've done it this year... I am in first
place but it is still early and the race is tight.
Next month's assignment: "Spiritual" (religious activities, places of
worship, symbols, etc.) That's why I love Detroit! Who would have thought
of such subject?!? I already have done some work and have a few good
images and promising ideas...
