This is from a press release...someone posted they wanted an
excuse to go to San Francisco & IMAX 3D, they will have to wait!
"Sony Retail Entertainment today marked the start of construction
on its new retail entertainment center to be located at Yerba
Buena Gardens in San Francisco.
Presiding over the event were The Honorable Willie L. Brown, Jr.,
Mayor of the City of San Francisco....etc, etc, etc.
The 350,000 square foot Sony entertainment center will rise up four
floors from the Yerba Buena Gardens Esplanade to become part of
the 22-acre mixed-use development known as Yerba Buena Gardens.
Located in San Francisco's revitalized South of Market neighborhood,
the entertainment center will be adjacent to the Moscone Convention
Center, the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, Center for the Arts
Yerba Buena Gardens and Yerba Buena Gardens Studio of Technology
& the Arts, which is currently under construction. The Sony
entertainment center is planned for completion in the fall of 1998.
Approval for the center was granted on February 6, 1996. Sony Retail
Entertainment, which oversees and operates the Loews Theatres and
Sony Theatres locations across the country and the development of
location-based entertainment centers and Sony Style retail stores, will
be the master tenant for the entire center. The project will be built
by Yerba Buena Retail Partners, a development consortium comprised of
Millennium Partners of New York and WDG Ventures, Inc. of San
Francisco. Millennium Partners is a New York-based real estate
development firm which was instrumental in developing the Sony
Theatres Lincoln Square movie theatre complex and adjacent properties
in New York City.
