The Maddox Cheiroscope

Has anyone out there got any information on the Maddox Cheiroscope? It's a
relatively modern optical instrument with a stereo pair of lenses and a
stand. The bizarre feature is that one of the lenses reflects off a 45
degree mirror to view an area to the side, while the other lens views an
area below. There's also three sets of cards with it, all single cartoon
line drawings, none of which are stereo pairs. It was made by Clement Clarke
International of London. There's also a weird little plastic tube with an
optic on one side and a red filter in the middle. I don't have the foggiest
what this is for.
The only practical use I can think of is that it was some sort of tracing
instrument. But it has the most unusual application to stereo . There's a
clip to attach the cards to the side. If you take a cartoon and clip it in,
and put some paper underneath, you can view the image with one eye and draw
it onto the paper with the other. As you copy the cartoon, especially if you
are not dead accurate, it starts taking on depth! With a little practice,
you can purposely draw lines to the appropriate side in relationship to the
original, and purposely create depth as you want it. My version of a poor
man's 2d to 3d device!
Any info or interest in this one?
Sam
