Extention cables for TDC Projector
Slow night ;) I was asked this question and thought it would be
appropriate to post the answer to photo-3d:
>You recently posted to P3D:
>>A few more interesting TDC accessories that I have acquired:
>>- Long flexible cables that allow you to change the 3 controls from a
>>different location (can be placed in the side or back of the projector
>>or be given to people in the audience to handle the controls)

>Can you describe this a bit more? It's mechanical, I presume (not
>electrical?), like maybe a (feet-long) long spring? How long is it?
>How does it attach to the projector knobs?
It was described to me as "3 heavy duty (electric drill flexible
accessory) remote control cables with set screw adapters". It is a
set of 3 mechanical adapters about 40 inch long each (1 meter, made in
England - go metric!). To attach it to the controls you have to replace
the knobs in these controls. There are set screws that you losen to
take them out. Once you put the extention, you turn the contol in the
extention and this adjusts the TDC corresponding control.
>Does it really work? :-)
I works beautifully! The question is, do you need it?
I have seen something similar being used in the Chicago stereo club in
1988. The projectionist only fed the slides in and out. Three members
of the club were given each of the controls and are responsible for
the adjustments. (CSCC, is this still the way you do it???)
As we have discussed in the past, this is a matter of philosophy.
I think that only the focus needs to be changed in a stereo
projection. The projectionist can easily adjust the focus.
Certain people believe that all three controls need to be adjusted.
This cable serves those people.
The previous owner used these cables as he was running his TDC 716
projector from the back. He made special adapter to hold all three
controls in a row. He must have been really quick in adjustments.
Having seen some of his slides, I can tell you that he needed all
three controls (lousy mounting!)
I have bought all his TDC accessories (but not the projector)
including the table with a custom-made top with screws to attach
the holder for the cables. I personally have no use for these
cables but I am keeping them just in case we need them for the
Cleveland Club.
