Sir Stereo Diplomat Shab Levy....
I really liked the form you made up for the Cascade Stereo Club.....as
projectionist for our club Stereo New England....I have my hands full....as
well as showing RBT products....and general club organization....and that
form got the two light bulbs over my head turned on bright. (you need two
bulbs to get an idea in stereo...dont forget your polarizeers!)
One of the key things I see that you do Shab....is make yourself available
for people to talk to, and provide a structure and information gathering
medium to get new people on board....and in our club....I have stepped
forward to take on more of that function in 1997.
With very little effort...and a thread of organisation...our meetings of
Stereo New England now average no less than 80 people....our last meeting had
over 100!!! So I am looking right now for someone to take my duties as the
projectionsit/sound person...so I can mingle about...shake hands and welcome
new faces. And I wont be the only one on the hospitality commitee...I am
looking for other club members that I have already spoken to
individually...to help.
This I feel is very critical to the survival of an interest group that, as I
see it...is in majority, people in the 50 year and up range. These people
often have years of valuable experience and knowledge to pass on to younger
and newer members.....but as I see it (correct me if I am wrong or inaccurate
on this)...our club....and even the NSA....make little provision to go the
extra length to make new attendees feel at home. I am not criticizing
here...only pointing out I see it, and have witnessed it, after several years
of NSA conventions....and if we as a group do not extend a more welcome
hand....many enthusiastic new people...young and old... attend an NSA, a
meeting or two...and then drift off.....and that is our global stereo
communitie's loss...because these new people are critical to the sustanance
of the hobby.
So any suggestions anyone has for me, the NSA and all others
intersted......post them on the list for us to share....new blood is the
essence of our survival in this somewhat obscure and eclectic 3-D hobby, one
which brings together a lot of great and talented people....I..at least feel
blessed to have met and learned from so many of you all and hope I can
reciprocate ....Happy Holid-d-days again...Jon Golden
