I tried one roll of SWF on floppy 2 years ago. The program lacked features
but my copy is OLD (12-94) and they probably have improved it. I think you
could save in JPG format 400 x 600.

Then Konica offered the same service with YOUR film available at the local
chain of CVS drugstores. The program has thumbnails, ability to rotate any
views ( they rotate most of the vertical shots, but may miss some). You can
also save as JPG in 400 x 600 pixel format. It costs $3.95 and takes an
extra day, i.e. 2 days instead of one. I have about 10 rolls that were done
this way. If there is a Konica service in your area I recommend them. I
believe that Kodak also offers scans on floppy. I had an APS roll scanned
last July and it took 30 days! The quality was not a good as with the
Konica 35mm either. The shot of 42nd St being groomed on my WEB page was
from this APS roll. They probably have improved the service since then.

I no longer use the floppy scans and just scan the 4x6 prints of interest.
At 300dpi this yields a 1200 x 1800 6Meg TIF file. I then can crop, add
titles / borders, and print out on my HP855C printer using their glossy
paper. For my WEB page I resample to 300x400 or whatever is needed and save
as JPG with a loss of 10 using Corel Photopaint 7. This results in a
smaller size (20k-50k) suitable for downloading.

My highest resolution scan on the WEB was of an 8 x 10 print (1600 x 2000)
from a 6x6cm neg of "House of Blues". This was about 25Meg at 200DPI.

Currently I use a Realist f/3.5 with 200 speed neg film, and have 3.5 x
6.25" print pairs made by Grand Photo, 1681 Grand Ave, Minneapolis MN.
These are viewed with a Cosmic viewer and some are scanned to put on my 3-d
cat web page. A copy of the right image is put on the left so that both
cross-eyed and paralled viewing can be done.

For direct viewing I use a Sputnik with Fuji Provia 100 speed pos film and a
King Inn viewer using Q-Vue 6 x 13cm (3.2 x 5.2") format cards. Once you
have seen photos in this format you can't go back to the realist format. It
is like sitting in the first row at an IMAX movie! You are surrounded by
image. Paul Wing introduced the viewer to me.

Speaking of IMAX, has anyone thought about making a 1-5/8 x 4" realist
format projector for use with LCD goggles? You could set the shutter rate
as high as the LCD shutters could take and completely eliminate flicker.
There would be no crossover of images (left in the right, right in the left)
as with the polaroid method. Disadvantage: cost. No club could afford to
buy all those goggles.
