Erlys had a first positive experience; as previously stated, I had a
very negative first experience at a non-photo club and didn't go
back. It is wrong to make sweeping generalizations from either
experience. Certainly, *if* the club officers happen to be skilled
at making newcomers feel comfortable, and are able to make the time
to do so while also carrying out their many other duties, there is
no need for a separate welcoming committee. But this thread started
with Jon Golden's observation that perhaps his club was not going the
"extra length to make new attendees feel at home." So this is not
something that should be *assumed* will be adequately taken care of
at all clubs.
