Stuff

Well, I have been reading the various digests since the school closed
down but have not taken the time to respond to anything. Since I am
sitting here waiting for a salesman to come visit, I am taking the
time to respond.

George wondered if I was taking 3-D pix when I fell off my roof in
November. No---I was checking my amateur radio antennas. Never did
check anything as I never made it to the roof but since I am still
talking to people all over the world, I guess the wind storm we had
had the night before did not damage anything.

A fellow from Joliet (IL) contacted me (Harry, the Bear?????) but I
have misplaced his email address. So, if you are reading this,
please contact me again. I am sure we can get together sometime.

I have been reading all this stuff about clubs, welcoming committees,

etc. George made a comment about the Chicago club (sorry--I do not
have it here) and their dress. It sounded like people were in white
ties and tails. The major problem is that the club meets at the
Chicago Ateletic Association and they have a tie and jacket dress
code. In the meetings I have been to, not everyone adheres to this
but there is no one shabbily dressed either. At the last meeting, I
did manage a tie but not the jacket.

That club, by the way, really makes an effort to talk to any
newcomers. I went to the September meeting, mainly to meet a member
and buy all I needed from him. When I went to the October awards
banquet, many stopped and talked with me like I was an old friend.
They remembered me but, I apologize, I did not remember all of them.
I know them now, however. The club introduces newcomers at the start
of each meeting and then the members take over.

On the other hand, however, I went to my first meeting of the
Northwest Indiana Heart Association. The chancellor of the campus
arranged for me to become a member. I missed the November meeting
due to my accident but did make the December meeting. These are
listed as "breakfast" meetings at 7 AM. I got there, in the midst
of a snowstorm, got an orange juice and a piece of a wreath-
shaped bagel. I had taken a small piece (and I mean small) and
really wanted to go back but realized no one was touching anything.
So I stayed put in my chair. They all knew everyone else on a first-
name basis but no one there said one word to me. I am not trying to
offend anyone here but I thought the whole meeting was a joke.
Needless to say, I am not returning.

Have a good one.
