esposure vs. composition
Good exposure is something that we analytical types can achieve by
bracketing, and that's a good thing. I'm sure that the assumption in
this discussion, is that the image you are about to capture is beauti-
fully composed. I would rather see a stereo image that is thoughtfully
and beautifully composed, mounted beautifully, and a little off on the
exposure, than a so-so image pair, even if it is mounted well, and
exposed perfectly. An under-exposed slide ends up being enjoyed in
a Themelized Red-Button Viewer, an over-exposed slide ends up being
enjoyed in a steal the light viewer or projected, and a perfectly
exposed so-so slide ends up not enjoyed very much at all (if it
doesn't end up in the trash).
I took a roll of flat pictures (with my wife's point-n-shoot IQ-115),
of the biggest snowfall almost ever, and was so disappointed that there
were maybe two pictures out of the roll that are almost composed well.
I'll keep them, of course, because of the subject matter (one of my
favorite pictures is a very blury black&white picture, from around 1930,
of my grand parents standing in the middle of a field of turkeys.)
You never know which picture will be special to you in the future.
I admire those of you on the list that can afford the time and the $$
to shoot more than one or two rolls a month. I do shoot more than
that, but I can't afford it:(
