****** A little perspective on distribution, not everyone will have your
book, and those who do will show it to some circle of acquaintances. Some
may buy their own copy. A web page will not reach everyone either, but it's
a larger potential number of persons in a given time and opportunity range
than a book, unless the book sees very wide distribution. The web page can
be shared farther and easier than a physical book so the potential spread is
theoretically larger or at least similar. I guess I'm saying it's not a fair
comparison to see it terms of *either or*, as each is a form of publication
with benefits of it's own. The presence of a printed book can be greatly
enhanced by the presence of web pages dealing with the book, even to the
point of duplicating much of the information. The advantage to this kind of
web page use is that it supports the book by expanding it's content in a
closer-to-real-time manner. Plus it supports additional formats (animations,
video clips, interactive glossary, electronic indexing, etc) not usable in
the book itself. Once the book is published, it's fixed in content and can't
be directly updated. Web pages can be updated at will which means they can
be reflective of your more current activities while stimulating the desire
to own the book itself.

********* Actually it's quite efficient and the repetition is part of that
efficiency. It's unreasonable to assume that everyone with an interest in 3D
is going to have the time to fully explore the archives before joining in
the conversations. It's there once they find out about it and have time to
look through portions of it. It's not really a one sitting kind of resource.
Just like holding a book is more satisfactory than clicking a mouse,
conversation with living, breathing, seeing, 3D enthusiasts on P3D itself is
a more satisfactory way to absorb much of the information. Besides, 3D is
based on two or more perspectives and the multiple rehashings of information
usually sheds additional light or detail on familiar subjects, if for no
other reason than you don't want to say it the same way as the previous 12
times. ; -)
