Grant writes about the Realist:

>I got my two first rolls of Realist slide film back and, after a couple
>hours, finished meticulously mounting eight slides in Realist normal
>mounts. They look wonderful compared to my Nimslo, I'm sorry to say. The
>focus is better and of course the extra width is great.

Glad to hear that you are happy with the Realist. In my mind, you traded
automation, convenience and weight for better control and better quality
(Gabriel, are you taking notes???)

>And yes, Dr. T, I did not bracket my snow shots, and many are perhaps
>5/8thsof an f/stop under exposed:)

Be careful with those fractions Grant! Actually, last night Jim and I were
talking about fractional bracketing. The aperture markings of the Realist
are closely spaced dots. The best one can do is go in-between for half
stop increments. No way on earth one can claim 1/3 control with this
camera. So, besides the philosophical question ("why?") we have a
practical question ("how?").

>One thing though, I seem to have vignetting on most of the pictures. Even
>on the ones that were at f/11. I'm not sure how to fix it.

Normally you should not be seeing it at f11, a bit at f16 and more at f22.
Can you send me an f11 picture for inspection? Any leaks yet?

>Maybe, I should just use a tripod and keep it at1/150.

Wait, it's the other way around. At high speeds you don't need at tripod.
I always use the highest possible speed (usually 1/100) and f8-f11 usually.

>I do enjoy mounting them, and I hope I can get as fast as Dr. T:)

Practice, practice, practice! Maybe one day you can type as fast as he
does too (especially at lunch breaks! ;)) Practice!!!

On a related issue, Mike Province asks:

>Does anyone have information about the adapter that Reel 3-D sells for
>Realist cameras? The catalog says you can put the adapter on the camera,
>attach a regular flash attachment to that with a pc wire and it works. Has
>anyone tried this? Does it give correctly colored photos inside?

Mike, yes and yes. Make sure your flash has a pc cord. Your indoors
photography will certainly be easier and whiter.
