First Realist 7P Results!!!!
- From: P3D Dr. George A. Themelis <fj834@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx>
- Subject: First Realist 7P Results!!!!
- Date: Fri, 10 Jan 1997 13:28:21 -0500 (EST)
I have in front of me two rolls of unmounted slide film. One is from my
Belplasca. The other is the first roll from my 7p Realist.
First impression: Realist 7P looks fine! Even spacing of pairs (Belplasca
tends to be uneven), nice wide black band of even thickness separating each
frame in the Realist. No sign of light fall-off in the tested apertures
(mid-range). Realist 7P frame is slightly wider than the Belplasca (30 mm
vs. 29 mm) but identical for every practical purpose. I only got 19 pairs
from the Realist while I get 21 from the Belplasca. The difference is due
to the Realist's wider interocular distance. John gave me directions to
load the film to get 20 pairs, which I, stubbornly, ignored ("you are not
going to tell DrT how to load his Realist!" ;))
I used a $3 viewer (YES, I do have one of those too!!!) to check the first
Realist 7p frame. Looks fine. No detected loss of resolution at the edges
using the $3 viewer.
At the moment I have to say: The operation was successful. The patient
survived and has passed the first and second examinations by Dr. T.
Third test is tonight at home using the mother of all instruments, Realist
red button viewer ;). I have similar pictures from both Realist and
Belplasca to compare.
This first roll was handheld, mid-range apertures, the kind of photography
I use every day 95% of the time. The forth test will be to use a range of
apertures and focusing distances with two cameras. This will take a while.
I plan to use both cameras for a long time before I post my final
conclusions.
I am personally very happy! And I would like to thank the surgeon, John
Silvon for a job well-done in this first post cold war Realist surgical
procedure!
Thank you John!
George Themelis
