While I believe in thinking in terms of 800 x 600+, I generally adhere close
to the above guidelines as regards any single specific image width for the
reason that small screen resolutions do get used and it helps keep image
files smaller for faster downloading. This doesn't stop me from using a
wider format for myself or intending the total layout to be best in a larger
resolution.
