Hi there, I've enjoyed this list for several months now and have
benefited from the shared knowledge of several people. It seems though
that 99% of the discussion is of a technical nature. I've been taking and
mounting my own pictures and viewing them in an old Holmes-Bates viewer (I
can't afford a red-button, or a slide cutter) for about six months now.
One thing that I believe from my limited experience is that the
characteristics of a good 2-d shot are not necessarily the same as those
for a good 3-d shot. There seems to be fewer "rules" -(not the best word)
in 3-d photography than in 2-d. One primary example is a picture of a
mountain with a bare tree in front of it that makes a horrible 2-d shot,
but an interesting 3-d shot.
I believe that technical mastery is a prerequisite for any art and
I have benefited a great deal from the technical knowledge shared on this
list. But I was wondering if it would be possible for people to share
opinions on more aesthetic matters relating to the 3-d photographic
medium. Perhaps a description and discussion of some of your favorite
pictures and why they are interesting or striking in 3-d but a total dud
in 2-d.

BTW, is it possible to get this list in non digest form?

also, What is the approximate value of a '40's True View set with two
viewers in a box and a boxed set of 60 reels, three missing. I found one
in an antique store but I don't know much about it.

Thanks

Rich Harris
