Jon Ker opines:

Since private e-mail is, by definition, private, how do you claim to know
that this is NOT occuring, and that the list is NOT spared endless banter
of no interest except to the involved parties? In fact, the occasional
"escaped" e-mail that makes it to the list proves that people are already
following your "rule".

>And Please don't clip and quote what I have already read by someone else.

First, there are those of us who read in ACK mode. For us, it is very
helpful to have context when reading a reply to a message that may have
been sent days ago. Even in digest mode, replies are only sequential
from the really FAST respondents (you know who you are, Dr. T!) Second,
posts are not necessarily mailed in the order received because of length.
The moderators have explained this in the past. Quoted context is essential
given this reordering. Third, quotes are almost always delimited in some
fashion, as mine are above. Hint: just skip the lines that start with
">" to skip the quotes.

I hadn't read my e-mail since Thurday night. Today (Monday) at noon,
I had over 240 messages, the vast majority from P3D, and seemingly
the majority of THOSE about what to change/not change about this list!
If I didn't know better, I'd say John B. was *trying* to increase the
list traffic!
