I think...Yes! we'll call this a positive comment on anaglyph :-)
Way to go Bob! Maybe you and Bill Carter can exchange views sometime.

Two nights ago I was checking out some new slides - micro shots up
to 10x on-film magnification - of sand samples I have accumulated.
Some were taken with a 25mm 16mm-movie lens adapted for red-cyan
anaglyph. Given that focusing and metering are difficult due to
the darkening effect of the gels, a couple are remarkably good.

One sample is from a dinosaur fossil site and contains
large amounts of tiny bone and teeth fragments. In these the
anaglyphs are vastly superior to the flatties, and viewing them
projected is also gratifyingly similar to viewing through a stereo
microscope.

Anaglyph has it's limits. What seems to make these work
over some of the other sand anaglyphs: colors are mostly whites and
browns, surfaces are matte, and particle sizes are well matched to
the depth range of the pic.

Another good anaglyph subject this winter are leaves, laying on
top of snow. They have nice detail, limited colors, and when
partially propped up are clearly 3D against the snow. Prints
are interesting without the glasses and even more so with.
