Another advantage is that CD-ROM equipment doesn't require the use of 
"expendables," like phonograph styli. Phono cartridges and styli are 
already becoming hard to obtain, and when you've worn out the needle, 
the machine is no good any more. We can probably keeep our antique CD 
players functioning longer. And, of course, manufacturers will try to 
be backwardly compatible for awhile.

I think the future looks bright for digital preservation. I hope I 
live long enough to be able to buy some 3D CDs!
