Like I said at the beginning of my last post, I have seen this exact
response from MANY people over the years. Some from anaglyphs, some
form Lenticulars, but mostly from stereo pair prints viewed thru my
100+ year old Othamologists Stereoscope. I am constantly amazed at the
number of people that have NEVER seen something in 3D... When they are
shown something they can relate to in 3D, they generally love it. I do
not think the format is the thing... (NOTE: The only way I can show
them slides at this point is the 3Discover or Viewmaster. I would not
choose either of these as an introduction to 3D.)
The entire point of my other post was to say that each of us has a
particular 3d presentation medium that we prefer. That is OK. For
George, that is slides. For me, it's probably good old fashioned stereo
pair prints. Is either of us right or wrong for having a favorite? IMO
no... I think the key is to recognize that a format which does not work
best for you could still be the best format for someone else. That was
MY point. =)
Maybe a simple analogy would help: In the wide world of TV
entertainment, there are MANY shows to choose from... Let's pick ER for
a this example. I happen to hate it, my mother in law CAN'T miss a
week. Does my dislike or her enjoyment say anything for the quality of
the show? Not really. It probably is a good show. For me it is not
about an interesting subject, and the hospital environment is a
detraction. She loves the characters and the human drama... Neither of
us are really judging if it's a good show, only finding things we like
or dislike about it.
I think this whole discussion, all the way back to the HYPER stuff is
similar. 3D (TV) can be good but we each prefer variations of it
(shows) based on our own set of criteria. Does one users dislike for a
particular flavor of 3D make it bad? Only for that user... Does
another's like for a different flavor make it good? Again, only for
that particular user. If the correct emotional response can be gained
via ANY 3D format, then great!
Long live all 3D formats!! ;)
