Wedding photography (was: George's Opinion...)

In a bridal show that I attended demonstrating stereo slides last year, one
common question was: "These look great! Can I get a print (actually, a
huge enlargement) that looks that good?"
What was happening is that the realism of stereo photography was confused
with quality of photography. I tried to explain that the print
(enlargement) will look like a print, i.e. it would lack the depth and
realism of the stereo image. This was a difficult point to pass to people
totally unfamiliar with stereo photography.
Come to think about it, realism is important in wedding photography. These
pictures are memories. People look at them to be reminded of the event.
Good quality enlargements properly displayed and lighted, work better than
small prints in that you can see the details from a distance. They are
more realistic. In that respect, I understand the reaction and question.
People want to preserve the realism they see in a stereo slide but get a
large print so they can easily display it and share it with a group.
