Thanks Greg for the useful information regarding the Olympus dual cable
release....

Perhaps you should also check my favorite mail-order place, B&H. They list
the Olympus dual cable release for $34.95 and chances are that it still in
stock. You can email them at: photo@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx or call them at
1-800-947-7008.
In case you wonder why do Olympus and other companies made dual cable
releases the answer is not "for 3D" but for macro photography. This cable
is listed under "Macro/copy systems". It is used with the Auto Bellows.
One side attaches to the bellows, the other to the camera. The one in the
bellows will stop the lens down to the selected aperture before the other
one fires the camera. That explains why the Pentax cable had different
plugs; one obviously went to the bellows and did not want you to switch
them. This also explains why some cables seem to be impossible to
synchronize but instead one is coming out sooner than the other. The
reason is that you are not supposed to synchronize them when used with the
bellows. But the Olumpus cable works well (once I had one and used for
stereo photography).
