Eyelglasses and Realist Viewers

My buddy Dr. T said:

Eyeglass wearers have usually a problem seeing the 7p (not 5p) image in
the
red button. It all depends on the thickness of your glasses and design
of
the viewer. The field of view decreases as you increase the distance of
your eyes from the lenses. I think John B. has mentioned that because
of
his thick glasses he can hardly see the 5p in the red button so 7p is
beyond the question.

This 'restricted field of view due to eyeglasses" has been an annoying
problem for me... even for a measly five perf picture. If I leave my
glasses on, I can't get close enough to the viewer to see the whole
field of view. If I take OFF my glasses, the Realist Viewer --ALMOST can
bring the image into focus for me... but not quite. I mentioned the
solution eons ago here, and it's worth posting again:

I took my viewer to my eye doctor and 'splained the problem. What she
did amounted to "taking the corrective lenses off my eyes, and putting
them on the viewer," in a decidedly low-tech fashion.

The little 'slip in' lenses that the eye doctor uses ("Does this look
clearer... [slip in lens] or does THIS?") are just slightly larger than
the lenses on the Realist red-button. We found which one worked - by
simply holding a number of them up against the lens of the viewer. When
the viewer had been corrected - she ordered two replacement lenses of of
that particular strength for her eye-testing gadget. They weren't cheap,
but I take a little of that blue gum that kids use to stick posters on
the wall ('Fun-Tak'), stick it on the ample metal rim that surrounds
these lenses - and stick 'em to the Realist viewer. They're completely
secure, but can be removed instantly and without damage -- and now I can
look at my Realist slides in my "Themelized" viewer without having to
wear my glasses!
