Both gentlemen I spoke with (when researching my concern about damaging
my audience's eyes) assured me that the low-powered lasers used in
pointers were *not* polarized and that the polarization is only done
for high-power lasers (I have forgotten the explanation of why--but it
made sense at the time). At any rate, this was the opinion of two
people in different organizations working with lasers on a regular
basis...
