Regarding the acrylic plastics under different aliases or trade names
Plexiglass, Perspex, or Lucite for that matter, I have tried them out
recently and they didn't depolorize. It is a rather soft material to
work with and quite good optically. I guess it can be used in a project-
or-view successfully, which seems like an interesting project. Also 
makes good prisms quite easily for viewing stereo pics. There is of
course some chromatic aberations but so does glass.
