Broken Realist

Hello,

I am in search of advice, in reguards, to a problem that has chronically
happend to my very old, early run, Realist Camera. I am pretty sure that
there is some difficulty with an overly worn part.

Well, here is the problem. I am having trouble with my film advance. It
always locks up in the same location. At this was very intermittent. Maybe
once or twice during a roll. I would then back up a little and then could
proceed on again with of course advancing a few frames to prevent over lap.

This was all fine and well untill it lock up for good. I then took the
camera to my brother who has had some experience working with Belplascas and
Verascopes to see if this could be a quick fix. The first thing we noted was
when we removed the advance knob was that one of the teeth on the knobs gear
was sheared off. But this sheared tooth is always no where near the location
that the camera locks up. The camera also advances fine if turned from the
inside (not very useful in the field). It also seems to work most of the time
when the gear on top is rotated directly without the knob. It also seems not
to like a certain torque pressure resultant from use of the knob. The
sheared tooth I think is a red herring and the real problem is in some
internal mechanism that is very difficult or impossible to get to. Someone
said something about a slipping set screw (with odd four corner opening) but
it was fine.

Please respond with any help you can offer if there is any clue to my
camera's afliction.

Thank you,
S. Gawoski
