Realist developing at Thrifty

Just a cautionary note. I had been developing my Realist shots thru
Thrifty with success, but recently they've changed the process slightly
which makes it a little more challenging to make sure they are handled
properly.

Previously, Thrifty had two envelopes, a Kodak one and an Thrifty one.
By using the Kodak envelope, you were insured that the film would be sent
to Kodak who can reasonably handle their development. Kodak will mount
the slides in heat sealed Realist format mounts (at least when you're shooting
standard 5P like I am) and I was reasonably pleased with the results. One
shot was mounted in reverse in my first roll, but otherwise I have been happy
with the results.

Now, Thrifty is using one envelope for both Kodak and Thrifty developing.
The boxes for Kodak and Thrifty have checks only for prints, if you
specify slides, it is a check box that is not in either the Kodak or Thrifty
areas. From looking at the information on the Thrifty developing kiosk, it
appeared that all slides would go to Kodak, as there was no listing of
slide film developed by Thrifty at all. However, I put two rolls in envelopes,
checked the slide box, and put "Realist Format Stereo Slides" in the
special instructions box on the reverse side of the envelopes.

I got one of them back in 7 days (as advertised), but they were not mounted,
still in a roll, with a note saying "Negs Overlapped." There was a Kodak
somethingorother sticker on the envelope, and the other roll was nowhere
to be seen. I called Thrifty's 800 number, to find out that the other
roll was sent to Kodak in Dallas, but the first roll was developed locally.
Apparently the local developer thought that the shots were screwed up standard
slides and left them unmounted. They charged me 9.95 for them.

The Thrifty person suggested I check not only the Slides box but the Other
box on the form, and make sure that the special instructions says to send
to Kodak. I probably ought to be a little more explicit, previously I
would list "Realist Format Stereo 3D Slides, Please Mount" on the special
instructions, I got a little briefer because I had previously had no
problems.

I've yet to see the second roll, but I'm hoping that I will find them
mounted as before.
